Unique Festival Dates in Chiang Maiβ
Let's clear the schedules first. While most parts of the country follows the official schedule for Songkran celebrations, between 13-15 April, Chiang Mai does things a bit differently.
The Songkran festivities in Chiang Mai are spread over longer period of time, 7-16 April, while the main parties and the biggest action takes place 12-14 April.

Chiang Mai Songkran Festivalβ
- Where: Tha Phae Gate 7-16.4. Map
- When: 13-15 April 2025
- What: Massive water fights and festivities
The main communal water fights take place at Tha Phae Gate between 13th and 15th April.
You can expect to see various Lanna cultural performances, a water tunnel and of course, massive water fights! We recommend families to come early to enjoy festivities in safer environment. Water fights start at 9am so you have plenty of time to play with the young ones!

Water War Chiang Mai hosts some of the biggest Thai bands over this wild and wet event.
Songkran Fun Festβ
- Where: Central Chiang Mai. Map
- When: 13-15 April 2025
- What: Wet Music Festival
Another big event in Chiang Mai by the Central Group. This festival runs through the entire official Songkran period from 13th to 15th April. Musical style in this event is Thai pop and rock, with some of the biggest Thai bands performing.

My Water Worldβ

- When: 12-16 April 2025
- What: Massive water fights and festivities
- Beware: Once you are soaking wet, do not take refuge in the surrounding shopping malls! Although this might seem like a good idea at first, the air conditioning, combined with wet clothing will give you a high chance of catching a cold.
Some call it Chiang Maiβs biggest water fight. Maya Mall Chiang Mai hosts a festival spanning over five days from 12th until 16th April.
In this event free event you can expect to take part in massive water wars while top DJs play tunes on the stage.
Songkran For Singlesβ

- What: Massive water fights and festivities
Literally right across the street from Maya Shopping Center, Think Park is another big water fight zone mixed with DJs and a big stage to pump up the mood. This event is also free, so you can smoothly move from one venue to another one on 12-16 April.
Note that this event starts on 11th April! So if you cannot wait to get wet, this is a great place to start the Songkran celebrations.

Wildwoods Party Songkran Festival in Nimman brings in big DJs for this one-day event. This event offers both wet and dry zones, so you can choose one according to your liking.
Songkran Pool Partyβ
- Where: One Nimman. Map
- When: 11-15 April 2025
- What: Water park and family friendly festivities
Despite it's name and location, this is a festival for the whole family! One Nimman is building a water park in a shopping mall, and it's certainly hard to think of a better way to celebrate Songkran with the whole family!
Songkran Tropical Beach Partyβ

Shangri-La Hotel Chiang Mai is hosting a pool party with tropical beach vibes on 12th April to celebrate Thai New Year. You can expect a high-end party with house music and some established DJs spinning the decks.
Traditional Songkran Ceremonies at Wat Chedi Luangβ

Although not the only Temple in Chiang Mai that hosts traditional Songkran ceremonies, Wat Chedi Luang is one of the most famous ones and is a great bet to experience real traditional Thai Songkran ceremonies.
This Songkran the temple is having a special focus to showcase how Songkran has been celebrated over centuries before the modern influences.
